Sunrise sum it climb, If you go ensure your prepared for a cold/wet/hot climate, So many go unprepared, the mountain is an unforgiving place. Left at 12:30am from the carpark. To be up there at 5:30am for sunrise. Probably a bit early but worth the wait
Awesome hike, attempted climbing the summit in Mid Nov. but unfortunately there were still some snowy parts at about 2,100 vertical metres and we didn't go any further because of not being equipped properly.
Some parts are pretty steep but technically easy. Just be careful at the scree field, which is very exhausting.
The first part until the hut is very well maintained. After that comes a steep section with stairs and after that it's just a scree field which is the hardest part of it.
Definitely will come back and attempt it again in the summer.
The landscape is unique and breathtaking. So much to see.
One of the highlights of our NZ trip even if we weren't able to hike all the way up.
Oh and the clouds went by very fast. Weather changes suddenly so be prepared for everything and take your time.
Mount Taranaki offers breathtaking views that are nothing short of spectacular. The serene reflection of the mountain in nearby bodies of water adds to its charm, creating a perfect mirror image. Hikers and nature enthusiasts will find this a must-visit destination for its awe-inspiring beauty. We started at 3:30 am. from the carpark, it was full of stars and we could even see the milky way. It took us about 2.5 hours to the perfect location to shoot the reflection. There's a hut on the way so everyone could take a rest.
Mount down hill run!! We went a couple of weeks ago, spectacular views! There was a little cloud over one side of the mountain… we walked up to the ski field there was still snow!!! Which was very exciting and fun 🤩 will definitely like to hike to the top in the summer and visit for skiing in the winter ❄️
Ps the clouds closed in the rain starting and so did our legs… remember the weather changes quickly on the mountain.
Too cold so make sure you have warm inners. Cars can only go upto meeting point rest all you have to trek so not good for a family outing. Good for photos 😊 …
Mount Taranaki is an incredible place to explore and hike. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or a beginner, you'll find something to enjoy on this magnificent mountain.
From the base to the summit, the scenery is breathtaking. The forests are lush and green, with stunning views of the surrounding valleys. As you climb higher, you'll be rewarded with even more spectacular vistas, including panoramic views of the Tasman Sea and the surrounding landscape.
The trails are well-maintained and clearly marked, making it easy to navigate even the more challenging sections. There are plenty of rest stops along the way, where you can catch your breath and take in the views. And if you need a break, there's always a nice spot to sit down and soak in the sights and sounds of nature.
One thing that really stood out to me was the diversity of plant and animal life. From towering trees to colorful wildflowers, there's always something new and interesting to see and learn about. And keep an eye out for the local birdlife, like the Tui and the Kereru.
Overall, Mount Taranaki is an amazing destination that I would highly recommend. Whether you're looking for a challenging hike or a leisurely stroll, there's something for everyone. So pack your hiking boots and get ready for an unforgettable adventure in one of New Zealand's most spectacular natural wonders.
Second beautiful mountain in North Island. It has free large parking area when you going up to the hill.hiking options also available. There is no shop on the top or near the mountain,If you need to buy something you should buy them in the town. You need to careful about black Ice and frosty road specially when you travel during winter times. Snow chains or 4x4 recommend during the winter times.
This Trek was one of the hardest I ever did. The results you get after the summit is not worth it at all. Be fully prepared before you decide to do this Trek. Carry enough water because you won't find any water source in the whole route. You need to have good shoes as well as trekking poles. Heard good things about this Trekking route but that was quite opposite.
